Wilmer Earl 'Wil' Atkinson

15 Mar 1955 in Wichita, Kansas - 9 Feb 1995 in Fremont County, Colorado 

WILMER "WIL" EARL ATKINSON, 39, who was a bassist with the Colorado Springs Symphony Orchestra and a pilot, died Feb. 9, 1995, after his airplane went down in Fremont County.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Salida.

Mr. Atkinson was born March 15, 1955, in Wichita, Kan., to Verle and Beulah (Hinderliter) Atkinson. His father and stepmother, Guelta Atkinson, survive and live in Wichita.

He was married to Joyce Hanagan, who also survives. She lives in Salida.


Mr. Atkinson is also survived by a daughter, Rebecca of Salida, two stepbrothers and a stepsister.

Mr. Atkinson was a resident of Salida, where he operated Salida Air Service and was the Salida Airport manager.

He also was an electrical engineer and an accomplished musician playing the string bass.

Sad to hear Wilmer passed away so young. Wilmer had a contagious laugh, and a funny sense of humor. He's good to learn of his accomplishments, and left us doing what he loved.
