Maria was the daughter of Pedro Camacho Chavez and Blasa Ramirez Chavez and wife of Ralph Ponce and mother to Felicia Ponce Eastland, Gabe Ponce and Jessica Ponce.  She was the sister of Elizabeth Joann Chavez Tejeda, Roberta Chavez Cline, Robert Chavez, Richard Chavez, Daniel L Chavez, Peter James Chavez, Stella Chavez Cruz, and Christa Denise Chavez Hernandez.
