Yes

yes

Do you have grand kids? Great grand kids?

7 grandchildren

What has your life been like during the pandemic and what would you tell future generations?

I was a bit apprehensive starting back to work as a dentist shortly after the pandemic began. At that time there were so many unknowns. How contagious was the virus, how lethal was the virus and how to practice safely and protect the staff and other patients? I trusted the Lord and was thankful for the therapeutics and vaccines that came on the market. I would tell people in future generations to do your own research and then make the best decisions for your particular situation. Insofar as vaccine mandates, I am against them. Allow people the freedom to make their own informed decisions. The vaccine passports becoming popular in Europe encroach on people's individual liberties. VERY SCARY111

What have you been up to since you graduated?

Graduated from WSU in 1976, with a BS in Biology. Graduated from the Creighton School of Dentistry in 1980, with a DDS degree (Doctorate of Dental Surgery). Over the years I have published over 20 articles for the Journal of the American Orthodontic Society (JAOS). I served as President of the American Orthodontic Society in 2021. The AOS is an organization of general dentists from all over the world who practice orthodontics.

If you have traveled, where have you been, what did you like best, and why?

In the 2010s, my wife Mary Beth and I traveled to Budapest, Hungary four consecutive summers. I had the privilege of spending parts of these four summers learning guided bone regeneration procedures from Dr. Istvan Urban in Budapest. Dr. Urban is the top doctor in the world teaching oral guided bone regeneration techniques to dental practitioners and oral surgeons. At the conclusion of these education symposiums my wife and I went on river boat cruises throughout Europe. We cruised the Danube, Rhine, Seine and Douro Rivers. Budapest is a wonderful city and the Danube River is gorgeous.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Snow ski in Colorado and coach my grandkids in basketball and tennis. Four of my grandkids are now taking tennis lessons from Rex Coad at the Wichita Country Club. Rex was in the West High School Class of 1973, and was a tennis teammate of mine at West. He had an outstanding tennis career as a player and coach at Wichita State before becoming the tennis director at the Wichita Country Club. Rex was inducted into the Shocker Athletic Hall of Fame a few years back. Rex also coached my two kids in tennis and is now coaching my grandkids. Talk about longevity. GO REX!!!

What did you think you would do when you finished high school and what did you actually do?

Become a dentist and I did.

Who was/were your favorite teacher(s) and why?

Mr. Wooten-a very good science teacher that got me interested in biology Ms. Throckmorton-a sweet English teacher Mr. Dennis Bretz-a good math teacher who was my tennis coach

What is a favorite school story or memory?

I had a friend Terry McLaughlin who was in the Class of 1971. One day during lunch we snuck off campus to go eat at the Nu-Way restaurant on Douglas. Coming back after lunch Ms. Brown the girl's gym teacher caught us and said "boys where are your passes?" I was mortified at the possibility of being caught. Terry without missing a beat said "Ms. Brown we have the passes in our pockets (which we didn't), would you like to see them? Ms. Brown said "no that's OK, just hurry back to class." Pretty smooth move by Terry. I understand that Terry became a minister. He obviously is quick on his feet. Although I didn't have the courage to pull off this stunt, several of my classmates who will remain nameless gypped school one day. They bought airline tickets to Denver roundtrip for about $20. They flew to Denver, had lunch at the airport and flew back and arrived in Wichita to catch the school bus home without the school or their parents ever finding out. WOW

Any words of wisdom?

To today's school age kids: "Take your education seriously. It is the most important key to future success."

Wichita West Class of 1972. What a wonderful 50th class reunion! Kudos to the reunion committee for doing a fabulous job with the logistics of the reunion. I especially liked Mark Dotzour's exhortation "to devote ourselves to the service of others the next 10 years." These truly can be the best years of our lives.

Greg Norby, It doesn't seem like it was that many years ago that we were playing basketball on your driveway on Denmark Street or going swimming at the Country Acres pool.
